A New Year’s pick-me-up.

As thrilled as I’ve been to get past Christmas and get the decorations cleaned out, I have to admit this week has left me in a post-holiday, exhausted funk.  I think I slept more from the 26th through the 30th than I have in months.  I really needed something to get me moving again.  Exercising to one of the many DVDs I have would’ve been cheaper, but instead I got on Craigslist and found this cutie.

I kinda liked the green, truthfully.  It already had the rustic look I usually work so hard to achieve.  But the top was a little nasty, so an overhaul was necessary.

I debated a while about color, and finally went with ASCP Aubusson with Paris Grey for the detail.  I love the Aubusson blue and have a lot of it in my house.  It’s got enough gray in it to be almost neutral, and looks very sophistocated.  With the dark wax, it looks very rich.

Yes, it was a wild New Year’s Eve at the Greene’s!  (I did break for fireworks and hot chocolate.)

With dark wax, of course.  I’m loving the knobs.  They’re made of carved wood – I thought they were grungy brass until I cleaned them up.

Happy New Year!  I might work out today.

It’s just beautiful Tracy! I look forward to seeing your creations in 2013!

  2. Oh so lovely!

  3. Oh that little cabinet is so adorable! I love both the before and after but see what you mean about the grunginess of the before. I’ve been working on new projects to get moving in the new year too including painting on new year’s eve! oh the life we live…

    • Oh yes…I didn’t even have champagne this year, not that it would’ve tasted good with the fumes. Looking forward to seeing what you’ve been up to Dana!

  4. Very pretty, nice work.

What kind of wax did you use? Love this!

    • Thanks Jackie! The first coat was a mixture of clear and dark Annie Sloan, then used dark. It really changes the tone of it.

  6. Beautiful piece!
